AEC Assistant
Ask the NCC a question and get the clause back, with cited answers and planning data for any address.
Our verdict
One of the most useful free tools here. Way faster than digging through the NCC on your phone. It doesn't replace your certifier, and it says so.
Best for: Builders, owner-builders and anyone checking the NCC on site
What it does
AEC Assistant is an Australian AI research tool for the built environment. It searches NCC 2025, 2022 and 2019 plus state building and planning legislation and ABCB handbooks, and cites every answer to the clause. Paid plans add projects, document upload and planning data (zones, overlays, bushfire, heritage) for any address. It also offers free deterministic calculators, such as gutters and downpipes to AS/NZS 3500.3 and stair geometry.
AI features
- Cited NCC and state legislation answers
- Project document review (paid plans)
- Free NCC calculators
Other compliance & permits tools
Archistar
AI property and design-compliance platform; its AI PreCheck checks plans against codes.
Verdict: More for developers, designers and councils than for tradies. Worth watching, since councils adopting AI pre-checks could speed up approvals.

Landchecker
Property data and planning zones/overlays for any Australian address.
Verdict: Not really AI, but the quickest way to check zones and overlays before you quote a build or extension.
Price: Free tier available. Standard A$82.50/month or A$62.50/month annually, Advanced A$240/month or A$200/month annually (ex GST). Enterprise custom.
UptoCode
AI checks your drawings and BIM models against the NCC and returns a cited pass/fail report.
Verdict: Useful for pre-submission checks before drawings go to the certifier. It's aimed more at designers and certifiers than at trades on the tools.
